Obsessed Beauty Tip #01

I love makeup, but I think there is an art in knowing how to properly apply it. There are many little tips and tricks that can help make the end result look more beautiful and effortless. Sometimes I feel like my face is literally rejecting my liquid foundation. Does that ever happen to you? I don’t remember exactly where I learned this tip, but I know by experience that it works. Whenever I feel like my liquid foundation isn’t quite sitting so pretty on my face, I pop it in the fridge for 15-20 minutes to chill it. When it has reached a cooler temperature, I apply it to my skin and it just melts in like butter. The warmth of your face makes the foundation spread over your skin so smooth it’s like magic. Also, always use a foundation brush! When using a brush to apply your liquid makeup it takes about 30% less product than it would when using a sponge. Trust me! The brush I suggest and can’t live without is MAC’s foundation brush. So this summer when things get too hot, chill your makeup for a beautiful smooth look.

The Sky is the Limit

Christian Louboutin, Daffodil

This weekend I went shopping at Sak’s in search of some new extra special heels. While busy deciding between the purple or black patent YSL Tribute sandals, lo and behold, Lady Gaga’s personal assistant came in to pick up a pair of Louboutins purchased by the Mother Monster herself. Obviously I was curious as to which pair she had picked, and of course had to try them on myself. I took a look at the table of gorgeous red-soled heels and I took a guess… It just had to be the silver python platform pumps with the 6 1/2″ inch heel. Of course I guessed right, and promptly asked the sales associate for my size. Oh. Em. Gee. They were ridiculously fabulous and absurdly high. I wondered to myself if I could actually walk like I could handle these babies in a real-life setting without breaking an ankle. Don’t get me wrong I love a high heel, but is there a limit to how high we can or should go? Tell me, when wearing heels, is the sky the limit?

Here are the shoes she bought.

Orange Crush

As I flipped through my favorite fashion magazines, I noticed that orange is a trending color in a lot of designer’s new Spring and Summer collections. I have never particularly liked the color, but for some reason it sparked my interest. I believe that the colors you surround yourself with can affect your mood and wearing certain colors can give you confidence.Orange is a power color and a healing color. A dynamic color to be sure, orange offers more thoughtful control than explosive red. So I did a little research on the its color meaning and it turns out that you should put a little orange in your life when you want:

  • to increase creativity
  • to spice things up when you feel time is dragging
  • to become more involved in something and
  • relief from things becoming too serious

Also, it just so happens that wearing orange during times of stress, or shock can help balance your emotions. Orange can bring out the willingness to embrace new ideas with enjoyment and a sense of exploration and creative play. If you follow the theory of Chakras, orange is the color that is associated with the Sacral Hara Chakra which is sexuality and reproduction. Well if that isn’t just perfect for summer I don’t know what is!

Here are a few ways to incorporate the color orange into your daily life.

Big Girls Need Big Diamonds

“True glamour come from within. It radiates from the soul.” one of my favorite quotes from the lovely and glamorous Elizabeth Taylor.

Today is truly a sad sad day as we lost a true Hollywood Legend and Beauty Icon to congestive heart failure. I have a special place in my heart for her, as the first perfume I ever owned as a little girl was White Diamonds.

Born in Hampstead, London in 1932, Dame Elizabeth Taylor was a child starlet and one of the greatest Hollywood’s beauties. In the 1950’s she was voted The Most Beautiful Woman in the World. One of the most famous and glamorous stars in the world, Taylor is also one of the most photographed women in history. She holds the record for the most appearances on the cover of Life magazine which she has graced eleven times, and fourteen People covers, second to Princess Diana. Taylor has also received five nominations for Best Actress and won two Oscars during her amazing six decade career. Her scents and have been in the top ten best seller lists in America since their launch, making her hundreds of millions. She also pioneered the campaign against HIV and AIDS awareness in Hollywood after her good friend Rock Hudson died of the disease. The Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation has raised millions of dollars for the cause over the years. A magnet for publicity throughout her life, Elizabeth was legendary for her eight marriages to seven husbands, most famously to actor Richard Burton, the love of her life whom she married twice.

“My Mother says I didn’t open my eyes for eight days when I was born but when I did, the first thing I saw was an engagement ring. I was hooked.”

What I love about Taylor is that she was never afraid to do what she wanted and took risks in her life and in fashion. She was infamous for her extravagant hats and headpieces. In the picture below, you can see Elizabeth Taylor pictured with Richard Burton wearing Valentino and a headpiece made of emeralds and diamonds.
And who could forget her starring role in Cleopatra, made in 1963, which was one of the most talked about movies of its time. Doesn’t she look fabulous?
A classic beauty and fashionista, I think Elizabeth Taylor was one of the last true Hollywood Legends of our time. She will be missed and not soon forgotten. Below I have put together some of my favorite pictures taken of her throughout her life, so enjoy!

Birds of a Feather {Extension}

I am always looking for ways to update my look and change things up a bit. Luckily, I happen to have a lot of beautiful and stylish friends to get great ideas from. An extremely in-the-know girlfriend of mine posted a photo on Facebook of her new ‘feather extensions’. I immediately flocked to it {haha}; I had to know what it was all about because it looked really cool. So, I got the details and paid her hair stylist a visit. I was delighted when I found out that I get to choose from all different colors, plain and striped, skinny and fluffy, to make my own bunches to be placed in my hair. It literally took 15 minutes, most of which was spent deciding which pretty colors I wanted. It was a piece of cake. Each bunch was secured with a small bead just like a normal hair extension. The best part is that you can curl and wash the feathers just like they were your own hair! I’ve had them in for about 4 weeks and they are still just as pretty as the day I got them. If you are looking for something different and easy to change up your style, put some feathers in your hair. I promise, you’ll love it.

For the Love of…

Although I have not chosen a career in the Fashion Industry, that hasn’t stopped me from following the latest trends, loving the newest designers, and dreaming about all things that are stylish. I love sharing my latest shoe crush, newly purchased handbag, or beauty essential with all my friends and family, so I decided, why not blog about it? So, I hereby dedicate this blog to the LOVE OF FASHION and ANYONE who shares my passion and desire for the Industry.

Put a Cork in It

Spring is here and summer is right around the corner, which means designers are already releasing their Spring/Summer and Resort collections. What I am loving right now are Christian Louboutin’s Patent & Cork Platform Sandals. Even though these sandals look like they defy gravity, they are surprisingly light and comfortable because they are mostly made of cork. Trust me, I picked up a pair while at Saks’ and you’d be shocked! They come in black, nude, and a fun hot pink color shown at right. How gorg would they be with a cute summer maxi dress or a flowy tank and jean shorts? As far as I can tell they are selling out in stores everywhere, so if you can get your hands on a pair, you definitely won’t be sorry. Cork wedges are a hot trend this season, so expect to see similar styles in your favorite stores.
